Juveniles (a person that is under the age of 18) today, probably commit worse crimes than a regular prisoner. There are more than 33,000 juvenile arrests every year! Also, the ten percent of how much homicides there are each year, are committed by juveniles. Today in the juvenile courts, they try to “help” and have rehab towards the juvenile. In addition, prisons do not have rehab towards the prisoner, they have harsher sentences and more discipline for the criminal. This will make the prisoner learn from his or her actions and learn on what will happen after, if they do dangerous crimes. Juveniles should be tried as adults when committing a violent and serious crime because how big the crime is, the punishment should fit that, also “old enough to do the crime, old enough to do the time,” and when juveniles commit a crime then they are lawbreakers, criminals are criminals. …show more content…

According to the article, “Should Juveniles Be Charged as Adults in the Criminal Justice System?” in paragraph 15, it states, “Some jurisdictions abide by ‘once an adult, always an adult’ rule, meaning that if a juvenile has been criminally prosecuted as an adult in the past, any future crimes will be automatically filed in adult court rather than juvenile court, regardless of the seriousness of the alleged offense.” This shows that if a juvenile committed a crime, probably even bigger than an actual prisoner's crime, they should know what the consequences are going to be.
