Crime is everywhere around the world and it is committed by anyone regardless of age.
There are a number of young offenders, but how should they be charged? Juveniles should not be tried as adults because it does not take into account the many factors that arise with charging a juvenile in this heavily judgemental society.
Many people believe that juveniles should be tried solely as adults from the severity of their crimes. However, charging juveniles as adults reduces the chance of rehabilitation for the juvenile. The environment in adult prisons does not give juveniles the chance to grow. They were able to reflect on their actions and realize that they didn’t want to continue down the wrong path. In Ellis’ ‘I Am One of the Success Stories From D.C.' s Second-Chance Law for Young Offenders’ he talks about his experience being a juvenile. Ellis states this about his life after imprisonment “But at least it left me with the possibility of a second chance. I took advantage of it. In the decade since my release, I have focused my life on serving my community, trying to make amends for my crime and offering mentorship and guidance to others who share my experiences.” Ellis is just one of the many success stories of juveniles being given a second opportunity instead of ruthlessly sending them straight to adult prisons. Juveniles should be able to want a better future for themselves, than be stuck in prison with no hope. Juvenile detention centers should be a positive environment for juveniles to grow and become a better member of society. In juvenile centers there are many teachers who are aiming to better the lives of the juveniles. Juveniles will have lots of support, because there are people who want to help them. In Washington State Department’s “Instructor Goes Extra Mile in Juvenile Rehabilitation”, they congratulate an instructor of a juvenile center for his great help to
