In “Schools Out for Summer” by Anna Quindlen she talks about students who can only have a meal at school because their parents are not wealthy enough to feed them at home. Anna states, “And some kids don’t get enough to eat, no matter what people want to tell themselves” (199). She is trying to say that even though the kids do not eat at home they will still say they do. Anna also talks about how the parents of some of these kids go to food drives for families like theirs.
Considering that breakfast is one of most important meals of the day, this can affect a pupil mentally and they won’t. A way the school can help overcome this issue is by holding fundraising events to raise money for pupils that cannot afford school uniform, trips etc. Schools could also begin to provide free school meals for children of low income families so that their child can still have lunch at school without the added expensive cost. This means that they will be able to learn as normal and pay attention without being hungry and distracted during classes. To tackle the problem of a lack of breakfast due to costs, the school can hold breakfast clubs just before school starts in the morning, so that pupils can attend and have breakfast at
Sleeping Schools Countless students all over the US struggle to keep their eyes open throughout the day because school classes start too early in the morning. If we were able to give an hour to students in the morning, we would see an increase in their physical mentality, their academic skill level, and an overall happier lifestyle. Many people will argue that starting school too late in the morning will cause after school activities -- such as sports and other clubs -- no time to meet before the night ends. But I must mention that we don’t need to push the start time that much later to see a huge improvement on student’s test scores, overall grades, and a student’s mood. The current school start time is unacceptable when thought about logically, and we must make the changes to have school start at a later time.
Less kids will miss school because some kids will miss school when they don’t get enough sleep, and kids will be able to get a little more than 8 hours sleep so they won’t face slew problems, and kids can get to school on time. Kids can pay attention in class. Kids can focus, and get better grades.
“Research has shown over and over that teenagers do better and feel better in schools that start later.” -Ingvi Hrannar Omarsson. Is sleep important for teenagers? Does more sleep help with concentration or health? Is sleep good for the average student who manages extra-curricular activities and loads of homework every night?
After watching the documentary “Approaching The Elephant”, I was given awareness about the existence of free schools. Although they seem reckless and different, free schools definitely have benefits students could use in the real world. In free schools, the students learn things that they actually are interested in. They also develop individuality and confidence in themselves. At a young age, they learn that their voice and opinion matter.
But if we were to not have lunch, then we could either get out of school earlier and be able to eat at home, or use that extra period for more class time. We would also be able to eat whatever we want and actually know what is
The effect of this is that less lives will be taken since students are more aware when school starts, obesity levels will drop due to the fact of students having enough energy to stay up without unhealthy snacks. Students will have better academic performances and they will think more than they usually. Obviously, schools should start early because students are more attentive, better memory, better mood, and an enhancement in executive
Just within the Tampa Bay Area, over 250,000 children struggle with hunger on a daily basis (“2010 Hunger Study – West Central Florida”, 2014). Sister Maria from St. Peter Claver Catholic School said “some students come to school with a bag of Cheetos to last them throughout the day.” Aside from the fact that there is no nutritional value to this snack, one bag of chips is also certainly not enough to sustain a human being for eight hours. One way that Tampa is combatting students coming to class without having a proper meal is through school provided breakfasts and lunches. About sixty- two percent of students in Hillsborough County are eligible for a free or reduced meal, an increase of almost twelve percent from the previous five years, mainly due to problems with unemployment in the city.
These things will improve one’s health. In addition to improving one’s health, it is also better for one’s concentration. The average student needs about ten hours of sleep; however, most students, especially teens, only get around seven hours of sleep. If school started later students would be able to sleep in and therefore get more sleep which would increase their concentration in class.
Or another effect that students are not well prepare enough for the real world because they just try to get the degree to graduate and actually not learn anything. If going to college is free, it is similar of students go to elementary, middle or high school, they are just going to school and are not really think ahead of their future. But when students get to college, hopefully they are old enough to realize what is best for them. If free college could happen, students should be thankful for that and try their best to achieve what they want. College should be free because of it can makes a big effect on student 's lives.
Snacking has proven to increase energy rates, which would help students’ and schools if used right. Snacking would keep students minds focused on their work and what is going on in the classroom. Although some time may be lost during the extended breaks, it would be made up. There is no point for students to sit through a class on an empty stomach and not be paying attention. This would all be solved by students being able to eat in class because it helps the mind focus and stay on task.
Increasing school funding may cost money but it would help the future of
All of which are lacked during a school day with a 30 minute lunch block. Some people don’t want students to have longer lunch periods because it will result in them being in school longer. People think this will add more stress. Students won’t get out early, but will still be
The students will be more organized since they are arranging their own schedules. They can learn how to disciplined themselves. The students could get their degree or finish his or her class faster.
