The Middle Class Should Receive More Financial Aid Many middle class families are struggling with various financial issues. They often find themselves living paycheck to paycheck(7). Even though some have a high income, meaning that they receive $100,000 or more, they also have children to care for who will, most likely, go to college and have to pay tuition without financial aid, choosing often to use loans. They also have many bills to pay for example, some middle class families own a house instead of an apartment because of limited space for five or more people. Therefore, most of their money goes to electricity, water, and gas bills, mortgage, and living needs for a whole family. Those in the middle class are being harmed by these finances and need support. Hence, they should get more financial aid.
The amount of financial aid given to middle class students is not enough to pay for college. To receive financial aid, individuals have to go through a criteria called the FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid) that determines how much aid each individual should receive. This criteria includes the consideration of gross income, and living means. The term living means refers to whether an individual lives in an apartment or a home, what neighborhood the individual resides in, and amount of family members per household. When paying for college, one of the most important things to consider is tuition. The average middle class family earns between $46,960 to $140,900 dollars in income per year (12). Using this information, we can find how much money a family would have after the cost of living. Therefore, when we subtract the cost of living which includes the cost of food, shelter, and other necessities, middle income families aren’t going to have enough money to pay for four years of college.
