Should P.E. be required for every year of high school?
Although having P.E. as a required class for every year of high school can have some positive benefits, such as controlling weight, the class should not be required. Not all students would excel in that area, and it could interfere with other required, academic classes. Even though obesity is a nationwide issue in teens, schools should focus more on providing an education.
Most kids in a school are looking for a quality education, not to get fit before their school careers are over. The fact of the matter is that not every student is athletic. “School sport is a state of mind. You cannot thrust it on to sensitive people”(Kite). According to national statistics, 20% of U.S. students in grades 9–12 have experienced bullying(Herb). Because of a lack of athletic abilities, a student might even get bullied by peers.

High school students also may choose from a wide variety of elective courses, such as music, foreign languages, or industrial arts”(Buethe). Academic students, who already work hard to get good grades in other required courses, do not need physical education to be another class that they need to worry about. Not requiring P.E. every year allows students to get other required, academic classes completed.
With two-thirds of America being overweight or obese, lots of people may have concerns that not enough physical exercise can lead to more teens being overweight(Moore). Although that can be a reasonable concern, teens should be able to make those choices and get the necessary physical activity on their own(“Should Teens be Able”).
After analyzing all of the evidence, it can be concluded that requiring P.E. every year of high school would not seem fit for the less athletic students and the more academic
