Should polygraph be used in judicial justice?
A polygraph is a machine that is commonly used in attempts to detect lies, that measures several of physiological responses accompanying emotions. Many people even the government rely on the results of polygraph as evidence in judicial judges, employment and so on. However, are the results of a polygraph accurate? Depending on our perspective and research, we support the results of a polygraph are not reliable enough to be evidence of criminal investigation. Assume the suspect is the person who designed the polygraph? Or the suspect knows how exactly a polygraph works? According to George W. Maschke and Gino J. Scalabrini(2005), people can pass lie detector tests by denying anything relevant, answering questions without hesitation and breathing normally. Because the purpose of polygraphers is to extract confessions, they most likely will tell the suspect that they can “see” a lie in the polygraph in order to terrify the suspect. Secondly, the suspect’s hesitation will be caught by the polygraph. When a suspect answers the questions he should provide an earnest, cooperative and resolute attitude. Last but not least, during the control questions, the suspect should try to have a breathing rate of around 15 to 30 breaths every minute.
