School systems having to remove religious affiliations from the premises isn’t the only problem that the controversy of the allowance of religion is creating. Many textbook companies are having to alter their production to avoid the topic of religion in order to avoid the process of lawsuits that could come from offending someone. Since the publishing of textbooks is such a highly profitable and competitive business, the conversation on religion in textbooks is a touchy subject due to the regression that altering the textbooks would do in the line of production. Professor Robert C. McMillian, who wrote Religion in the Public Schools, had these comments on the regards of religion in schools: Even though schools should be allowed offer objective instruction about religion, it would be wise to restrict courses in religion studies to adolescents and even then they should be electives. Teachers should be allowed to teach adolescents about religion since there are lesson plans that go on to teach about “Secular Humanism”. Teaching secular humanism means that the values of humanists that believe in the evolution of humans is taught; it seems absurd that something more realistic shouldn’t be allowed to be taught to children instead. Many have resulted to the idea of “equal-access” where all denominations are allowed. The covering of all religions is in essence a principle that is being used as a tactic for religion to be taught without offending other theologies. Since religion is a sensitive subject wherein education someone could lose their job over simply telling about their religious beliefs, there should be an allowance for one expressing their values to be constitutional
