Should sports be kept in schools?

Should sports be kept in schools? Athletics in schools have been a widely discussed subject over the years. Many people think that sports should be kept in schools, and that they provide many benefits. However, others think that schools should stop funding and having athletics, and focus on more important things, like their finances, as well as academics. Sports also impact things like students’ health and family. These are just some of the reasons why schools should remove athletics.

Schools are created for this reason. However, sports take up more funding, which makes the funding for academics go down. “Sports are just extra-curricular activities. Other schools across the world that have one of the best scores on tests, like Japan and Korea, they don’t have sports in schools."The difference is that 93 percent of South Korean students graduate from high school, compared with just 77 percent of American students—only about 2 percent of whom receive athletic scholarships to college."(Amanda Ripley, The Atlantic). The fact that more people try out for sports scholarships in America, or to get into college for sports, and fail, because they only have a small percent chance for getting into college for it. It’s like a lottery ticket. In South Korea however, most of the students get into college, because of their academics, and they focus on them, which makes colleges want to accept them more. If schools eliminate athletics, than academics would improve greatly, and not put the extra stress on
