Should student athletes really be paid?
Imagine working 40 hours a week at a hospital during the pandemic risking your safety, For no paycheck that is similar to what these student athletes have to endure. Student athletes go to school then go to work outs straight after they barely have a chance to work at a job with all studying and sports.Thats like working during the pandemic without pay and still needing to pay bills,get food,and transportation. Not including all the inflation it’s nearly impossible but that's what these colleges expect.Many people can barely survive working even without going to college so honestly what do they want these students to do? In an article I read it Talks about this “What about scholarships though? Some argue student athletes are paid through full scholarships. Something most college students can only dream about and that's partially true.According to the NCAA over 150,000 division 1 and 2 student athletes receive 2.9 billion in scholarships each year. These athletes already get a lot from these colleges”. They should be grateful to be able to play at this level to move to an even higher professional level.While this may be true These athletes put their life and body on the life when they train and play for these colleges. That might be what they get the full ride to do but what about when they get injured? In another article titled Should College Athletes Be Paid? Top 3 Pros and Cons it says “Governor of california stated “collegiate student athletes put everything on the line their physical health,future career prospects and years of their life to compete,while colleges reap billions from these student athletes' sacrifices and success but, in the same breath, blocking them from earning a single dollar”.These colleges are happy to use these athletes to make money but wont let them get any of the money than earn.Sports are very physically demanding and you have to really train your body to be the best.This can lead to some very serious issues, say an athletes breaks their leg how are they supposed to pay their medical bills. How are they supposed to pay for physical therapy? What if the injury is life/career ending, what are they supposed to do just take.They should be able to earn something from the risk that they are taking.This just sheds light on the sum of the things that could happen when these athletes put their bodies on the line for these
