The Ken Burns Documentary, The War, is a very interesting portrayal of how World War II affected America and the World. It made very clear to me the call to defend your country. As soon as Pearl Harbor was attacked, the push for war was never more dominant. People from all across the country rushed to recruiting stations in order to serve their country. They had rejected Texas offer to become part of the US several times, but suddenly President Polk is elected and uses Manifest Destiny as a way to get Texas and California. The US was not justified in going to war with mexico because Americans broke mexican laws set in place, they were trying to start a war to get Texas and California for themselves, and Mexico thought they were being invaded and land was stolen.

Individuals who voluntarily serve have officially occupied themselves with the thought of being able to step up to plate and defend their country are rationally the right people to serve in war. So when a person who does not have the courage or desire to serve is drafted they just become a danger to the rest of the group.

It brings peoples morals down; it is depressing to think about war, imagine how depressing it is to be a soldier fighting for his country in a war or a family member or a friend. Whatever the case may be, all Americans are affected by the wars America is involved in. These issues are only a few of the many causes of decline of the Western Roman Empire that also apply to the United States. The United States has to open their eyes and see the many resemblances this country has with the Roman Empire. The United States must acknowledge how many of the causes of decline of the Roman Empire are happening in this country.
In this comic book, “Addicted to War” by Joel Andreas, the author wrote this comic book for one purpose and it’s to expose the truth as well as to inform the people of why the U.S loves to get involved with wars. In chapter 5 the author explains how war generates billions of monies to companies that contribute to war. For example, every time the government orders missile from the weapons manufactures those companies earns tons of money. War is just another scheme to make a profit and that’s why the U.S enjoys being at war.
In most cases, people often do better in situations that they want to be in. By demanding men to go to war when they rather be somewhere else, they are not going to do their very best. If you have 60% of men who do not want to be there and only 40% of men who want to be there, your army force will not do as well if you had 100% of men wanting to be there. According to the University of Warwick, they proved that people who are happy work harder than people who are unhappy, in their study they said, “They found happiness made people around 12% more productive, while unhappy workers proved 10% less productive.” This statistic shows that forcing people to enlist will not make their army force better and stronger, in fact it does the exact opposite.
