The United States is facing several pressing issues. One of which is the need to transition to cleaner and more sustainable forms of energy. One area where this change is critical is in transportation, where the switch to electric vehicles is becoming increasingly important. With gas prices at an all-time outrageous cost of between $3 - $7 per gallon, a change is needed. With electric cars, there is no fuel required so money is saved on gas. Paying $0.10 per kW is the equivalent of driving on gasoline that costs less than $1 per gallon. In addition, electric cars emit nearly three times less CO2 than gas. Furthermore, gas cars release 12,594 pounds of CO2, whereas electric cars emit 2,817 pounds of CO2. The United States should switch to electric …show more content…
Gasoline/diesel cars are a big part of transportation emissions. In fact, according to the Department of Ecology Washington, “One of the main causes of global warming is pollution from cars. Vehicle pollutants harm our health and contain greenhouse gases that cause climate change. Burning gasoline and diesel fuel create harmful byproducts of nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and formaldehyde. In addition, vehicles emit carbon dioxide, the most common human caused greenhouse gas.” Global warming is a detrimental threat to our planet. It not only affects the animals and nature around us but also our health. We need to come together and solve this. A great way to do this is to switch to electric. Electric may not be completely clean energy, but many manufacturers are working towards it. They may pollute, but it is clear that they pollute much less than gas. The website Samasara makes that clear “Today’s EV batteries have a carbon footprint that is 2 to 3 times lower than two years ago, and growing cleaner still. Manufacturers of EVs are setting guidelines for their battery suppliers. For example, they require suppliers to only use …show more content…
Electric cars have a significant advantage in terms of torque. To prove my point driveclean.ca.gov states “Simply stated, electric cars are fun to drive–with quick acceleration and enviable performance. Unlike gas-powered cars, electric motors produce peak torque from a standstill, without the buildup gasoline engines require to reach maximum power. Electric cars also have great handling. With the battery pack positioned in the center of most electric cars, it lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity, providing superior weight distribution and stability, and improved cornering that minimizes rollover risk.” This shows Electric motors deliver maximum torque from the moment they start, allowing for immediate and smooth acceleration. Gas-powered engines, on the other hand, need to rev up to generate torque, leading to slower and less consistent acceleration. Electric cars are also capable of producing greater levels of torque, making them better suited for high-performance driving. Along with that the source also provides that Electric cars are safer. This is thanks to their low center of gravity that minimizes rollovers and increases handling. Furthermore, they are safer in a collision thanks to their large crumple zones. With no engine front collisions are much safer. Electric cars also provide a more pleasant driving experience. According to medium.com “What is missed by most is the
