INTRODUCTION
In this article i will be sharing my own and other peoples views on whether the voting age should be lowered to 16 in the UK, and if 16 year olds are mature enough and ready to have the vote. There are many mixed views on this topic with some very strong opinions. I will be starting some arguments for and against the topic and explaining my views on them. I will then write a conclusion on my views after reading and commenting on the points given for the different arguments.
Arguments for

One point that is made is that the young people's decisions could be damaging to the country, but why would the young people's views be any more damaging than someone who is 20 or 30? Older people chose to leave the European Union in brexit and who’s to say that that decision could not be damaging in the future? It also says that young people are not engaged or interested in politics, but lots of older people aren't either as you can see by the percentage of people that voted. In 2010 on 68% of people aged 26-35 voted, which shows that lots of older people are not either, but noone is saying that that age group should have the vote taken away from them? I think that young people should be learnt and sown more about politics in schools, which could make them more aware and interested in politics. In scotland students in school study modern studies which learns them more about politics, this could be why they had a big turnout of young people voting in the Scottish referendum.
Another argument is that life for a 16 year old can be very busy and overwhelming, this is the age where they are sitting their GCSEs and other exams, so we want them concentrating on revising and doing well on their exams. The last thing we want is them worrying about finding information about politics and making decisions on who to vote for and it getting in the way of their exams. They will also be leaving
