The theme of this story is makes an attempt of understanding someone's personal situation instead of teasing them and making them feel worthless because of it. After Nishimaya goes missing Shoya and Yuzuru, Nishimaya’s sister, go looking for her. The cause of the girl to leave home was to find her sister who left so she could apologize to Shoya for writing a letter about him that got him in trouble at school. Yuzuru wrote about Shoya jumping off bridges into a lake filled with fish which was illegal in their town.When Shoya was a young daredevil he used to do this, but he stopped a long time ago so when he saw the letter he was very surprised. This letter got Shoya suspended from school for a week. Yuzuru wrote this letter for the purpose of punishing Shoya for how badly he treated her sister in Elementary …show more content…

Nishimaya also realizes her sister has only ever stood up for her no matter what pain it put her through in return, but Nishimaya thought her sister went too far this time to protect her. As Shoya and Yuzuru were looking everywhere to find her, Yuzuru questioned Shoya by asking him if he is just trying to be her sister's friend out of guilt or pity. Shoya response was that he wanted to be Nishimaya’s friend because she gave him a reason to live again. Shoya was set on killing himself right after paying his mom back for all the money she had to spend to replace all of Nishimaya’s broken hearing aids. When Shoya saw Nishimaya again he knew that he wanted to dedicate his life to her. He wanted to show her how he too can save her life like she saved his. Shoya wanted to become a person worthy of living by turning over a new leaf and being Nishimaya’s companion instead of an oppressor. When Yuzuru hears him explain his reason for trying to become Nishimays friend she completely understood why he was wanted to help
