The siege at Fort Sumter was the event that started the civil war. The siege took place in South Carolina, which was one of the first states that seceded from the US. Fort sumter was an American fort. The whole thing started when the fort began running out of food and supplies so President Abraham Lincoln sent a message telling South Carolina that they were sending in food, and no weapons of any sort. However, South Carolina started getting annoyed that America still had a fort there even though they had succeeded.. So South Carolina sent a message to Fort Sumter warning them that if they didn 't agree to evacuate the area, then the Confederate States were gonna have to open fire on the fort.
