Siegfried Sassoon was a pacifist poet in the first World War. Sassoon wrote poetry that took a stand for peace and tell that the war needs to be stopped. He helped end the war with his uplifting poems. He chose to tell about the true meaning behind the war and the world know what was going on. He also bravely joined the war to spread the word about peace.
Siegfried Sassoon was born on September 8, 1889. He was born in Matfield,Kent in England to Alfred Sassoon and Theresa Thornycroft. Siegfried Sassoon had two siblings Hamo and Michael and his full birth name was Siegfried Loraine Sassoon. Sassoon’s father was from a very rich jewish family that were merchants. His father’s family originated in Iran and India and he carried on the wealth. For his mother, she came from a family of artists. Her family wasn’t as rich as Alfred’s family but, they were still wealthy. As a rich family, Sassoon was able to ride a horse and become a skillful rider. He first went to New Beacon Preparatory School in Sevenoaks to prepare himself to go to college. The first college he went to was Marlborough College which is a very hard and expensive school to get into. Then Sassoon left Marlborough and went to Clare College in Cambridge to study and read about history. He had a hard time sticking at a college so he went to Cambridge. Siegfried Sassoon then decided to leave college without any degrees in anything. The religion in his family was all scattered around. His father was a Jewish man, his mother was Anglo Catholic, and him and his siblings were Christian
