Haitian Vs Americans Culture According to Samuel Lagerlof “Culture is what remains when that which has been learned is entirely forgotten” (as cited in Usunied,1996, p.94). Every single country in the world possesses his own culture no culture is more important than another. They’re just different. However, Haiti’s culture differs from the United States in three major points; Values, religion, and norms.
When researching information about Haiti’s cultural dimensions, there wasn’t a significant amount of data available. However, a cultural dimension model will be developed based on personal research(Appendix D). Geert Hofstede’s cultural dimension model is a five-dimension model that rates countries from 1 to 100 based on certain criteria such as power distance, individual vs. collectivism, masculinity vs. femininity, uncertainty avoidance, and long-term orientation. When looking at power distance, which measures how evenly power is distributed and the influence that one has over another, Haiti is assessed at 50.
Across Latin America and the Caribbean, intellectual and political leaders have often used ideas about race to craft arguments and policies regarding national identity. National identity is constructed by each nation differently depending on their history. In Cuba and Haiti, two different national cases in which ideas about racial identity shaped the emergence of nationalist movements and discourses. With Jose Marti’s “My Race” and Michel-Rolph Trouillot’s “An Unthinkable History,” Cuba’s ideology of “racelessness” and Haiti’s idea that their history was “unthinkable” emerge. Jose Marti, a Cuban a writer, revolutionist, and national hero, founded the newspaper Patria, in which he wrote many of his key articles directed towards Cuban Independence.
In our history there have been many wars, revolutions, and consequences to all of these things, such as lives lost or land being destroyed but it was all worth it when they succeeded and got what they wanted, freedom. Many countries go through revolutions because they might have been under rule from another person and or country and wanted their independence. A revolution is when people overthrow a social order or even a government and are in favor of a new system or government. The American Revolution and Haitian Revolution had some similarities and some differences and this is what my argument will be about, comparing and contrasting both revolutions.
From 1791 to 1804, the country that had the biggest impact on the Haitian Revolution was France. In fact, the French Revolution was a significant catalyst to the Haiti’s own revolution despite having started a few years prior. At this point, France’s economy was still suffering after their involvement in both the American Revolutionary War and the Seven Years’ War. To combat the huge amount of debt they owed, France issued widely unpopular taxation schemes which ultimately caused more harm than benefit. Additionally, the heightened privileges enjoyed by the aristocracy and the clergy drew popular resentment.
The culture of Haiti is a diverse mixture between African and European cultures. Haiti culture was based on the French settlement in Haiti. Other cultures that influenced Haitian culture were Spanish Imperialism and people from the Caribbean. Some traditional holidays are Independence Day, which unlike the United States, is celebrated on the first of January. On January 2nd Haitians also celebrate Hero’s Day also known as Ancestors Day.
“China went through major changes in belief system.” Three major religions which made up Ancient China’s history were Confucianism, Daoism and Buddhism. First, Confucius, the leader of Confucianism was born in 551 BC. Confucius taught that people could advance in life through education. Likewise, some of the key factor Confucianism focused on were the ways that people should behave and live.
This is my final exam report, and its purpose is to explain the similarities of Haiti and Kosovo which despite the fact that are far from each other and don’t have any relation, face some common issues; I’m going to direct those issues and their effect on the future of these countries. Our task was to relate Haiti or Dominican Republic with Kosovo. If we were to compare one of them with our place, obviously Haiti would appear first in our minds. The reason is that political issues such as justice, corruption and crimes together with economical problems such as poverty, illegal drugs trade, and society classes of Haiti have a lot of similarities with those of Kosovo, and the impact of those issues predicts a gray future of these two countries
The placement essay made me think about all the different things between Haiti and America. How both places have different conducts. How my childhood in Haiti use to be and how now that everything changed. The way I approach it was to begin it with my childhood education and how my educational experience were different in Haiti. Then after that I wrote how after my 4th grade in Haiti was over I had received my visa to come to the US.

In the newly independent Haiti, all Haitians were defined as "black," and the notion of being black in Haiti was not an issue of phenotype but, “of a commitment to the values of equality and freedom and an opposition to colonialism”. Thus, generating a psychological shock to the emerging intellectual traditions of, “an increasingly racist Europe and North America that saw a hierarchical world eternally dominated by types representative of their own somatic images”. In Haiti, all citizens were legally equal, regardless of color, race, or condition, and civic participation was extended to all Haitians, and citizens were encouraged to utilize their freedom by expressing their rights. In the aftermath of the revolution, it became important to Haiti, that emancipation would be permanently maintained for all citizens of
