In Minority Report, a futuristic technology is utilized to apprehend criminals before they commit their act of violence. Fahrenheit 451 allows the viewer to better understand the extremities of a dystopian society due to its effective showcasing of what the government does to citizens that do not follow the rule of law. To begin with, if the firemen have word of someone that has books in his/her home, the house will no longer be standing but will be sitting in its own pool of ash. Guy Montag was a curious fireman who followed the law until he developed his own interest for books. Montag started to gather books and has to hide them in his house because his wife Mildred is more loyal to the law than her own husband. “Was it my wife who turned in the alarm? Beatty nodded, but her friends turned in an alarm earlier” (111) Beatty is the captain of the fire department and is the one that shows up to most calls. As a result, when citizens fear the hierarchy; people conform in hopes of avoiding the possible consequences. When people are asked to name those who they trust the most, many would say their family, and significant other but in a society where people conform due to fear, that trust is completely eliminated. Furthermore, in an ethical society, criminals of all kind atleast are offered a chance to prove themselves innocent, even for the most violent crimes. It is known that when people do not have privacy, they are restricted and do not express themselves freely. Citizens in Minority Report were tracked everywhere they go because of the eye scanners being at every major point in the state. To begin with, the privacy of the citizens was completely intruded. During the movie when John Anderton was in hiding, Danny has the spyders to go and search every apartment in the building. It could be seen in the movie that multiple people were doing private things and the government was able to see everything. To a certain extent, it can be understood that to find a soon to be murderer, certain actions need to be taken. Although when ethics are not considered, the society has captured the murderer but has not accomplished much by sacrificing the basic rights. In addition, books are illegal in Fahrenheit 451 because they allow people to generate their own opinions and thoughts which are bad for a controlled society. To begin with, the threats of burning houses down if books are found in your home has scared many citizens and made them become spies for the firemen. The citizenry has reached a point where people will report their neighbours if books are seen in their house.
