In a typical dystopian society everything is dreadful. Modern society is different from Fahrenheit 451, 2081/Harrison Bergeron and my IRB because in modern society we have a balance between utopian and dystopian, and in these examples they are complete dystopian where everything is not to be desired. The similarities between the novel Fahrenheit 451 and Modern Society are that they both have books. The differences with books are, that in the novel they have no value, but in modern society we use them for resources, also in the different societies with Fahrenheit 451 the government discourages reading or owning books, the fireman's job is to burn books because of the government not wanting them in the society. In modern American society we encourage kids to read books because it gives us knowledge, and helps us in the future, for example in Fahrenheit 451, “He wanted above all, like the old joke, to shove a marshmallow on a stick in the furnace, while the flapping pigeon-winged books died on the porch and lawn of the house” (Bradbury 1). The differences in both societies are that with 2081 they only have one channel and it is being limited and controlled by the government/Handicapper General. In modern American society we have many different types of news and it is not limited by the government, or influenced by it, this is secured by America's first amendment which gives the freedom of press. In 2081 there is only one channel, “‘We interrupt our broadcast of the National Ballet’s, “Sleeping Beauty” for important breaking news’” (2081 Transcript 3). In modern American society we have complete freedom of the news, which we use to keep the government in check and inform citizens of what the government is doing at all
