Even though both books may be similar in someways they are also very different in other ways based on the writing itself. One similarity both authors have, is that they started of with the same type of intro. They both started of their books talking about how or where they were born. They talk about their family history, for example Fredrick Douglass talks about his parents. “My mother was named Harriet Bailey.
In the two novels they have similarities, as well as differences. They both were enslaved when they were a small child and they both have family and love ones that care for them. These are a central themes that are similar in both slave girl in california and the narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass. However there are a lot of opposing themes such as between the two novels only one has a death of a family member and in one of the novels the main character had to suffer for mostly his whole life without ever being free.
In the books of 1984 and Harrison Bergeron, they share a common theme for the future. The author’s message from each of these books gives a prophecy in which our society might be headed to a utopian society. In 1984, the book was published in 1949, but George Orwell provides a predictable story of our society becoming “equal” towards one another due to the government. Also, in Harrison Bergeron, the author gives its message by the story taking place in the future of 2081, while right now it 's 2017, to predict that we the people might actually turn this democratic republic government into a more centralized bureaucracy. Although these two books share a common theme, what makes each one of them similar and different towards one another are the literary elements incorporated into the book.
When history is whitewashed, it is filtered to hide marginalized groups and oppression. Recently on the news, textbook company McGraw-Hill stated that the company will rewrite a portion of their book which referred to African American slaves as workers and immigrants (McAfee, 2015). I was offended by the fact that McGraw-Hill even published a book that slaves were called workers and immigrants. To say that African Americans were workers and not slaves changes the whole fundamental history of enslaved populations; workers implies a willingness, when in fact, African American slaves were not willing participants. When you change the wording in textbooks, you change people’s views and perspectives of historical events and their everlasting effects on cultures.
I have read Wilma Unlimited and Henry's Freedom Box. They both have the same theme,but different approaches to teach the theme. Both teach never to give up,but in different ways. I hope you agree with my opinion that the author did a great job on approaching the theme. These two books show similar ways of never giving up.

On page four of ¨Harrison, Bergeron¨ Harrison got out of prison and tried to get the people to revolt and stand up for there rights. Also, on Page three of ¨Old Gloy¨, The Grandfather went nuts and tried to get the people to recognize what the U.S.A used to be. Lastly, In both¨Harrison Bergeron¨ and ¨Old Glory¨, Both of the revolters were shot dead to make sour it would never happen again. That is only some reasons why they're similar.
The terms, Jezebel and Mammy, were created to explain or rationalize the treatment of the female slave. The Jezebel was considered a loose, ungodly, and over sexualized slave women who seduced the slave owners and a Mammy was a matronly, virtuous female slave who was superior as a homemaker and nurturing maternal figure. The Jezebel was despised and the Mammy was revered. According to the reading material, the young Jezebel used her sexuality to gain favor of the slave owner. In contrast, the elderly Mammy was asexual and served her master because she loved them as family.
Although, they have similarity, the two stories has major differences also. First, both author differs the way they introduce and develop their lead characters to the reader. Second, they also differ in perspective from which their stories are being told. Third, they differs on the choice of settings and how it impact to the stories.
Whether or not a slave narrative is able to persuade its readers of the inhumanities of slavery, the complexities within slave narratives and the discussions they create should not be overlooked. There is power within the act of writing one’s personal journeys and hardships throughout life, and that power gives former enslaved people the opportunity to express their own thoughts while making changes for future generations. Solomon Northup’s 12 Years A Slave gives a heart-wrenching depiction of what slavery was like in America. If the cruel images of the realities of slavery do not affect readers emotionally, then there is at least hope that the logical arguments raised throughout the novel can persuade those who are unwilling to see slavery
But they also both deal with choices and endurance of consequences from that choice. One of several particular elements in each of the stories that best emphasize the theme is the usage of figurative language in each text. Some of the different types of figurative language each author used is simile, personification, and metaphor’s. Another way that the author expressed the theme is in the story is the limitations of the American Dream for African Americans. Whereas in the poem, the author used sort of a cause and effect scenario.
The book of negroes written by Lawrence Hill is a fantastic book that tells the story of slavery through the eyes of a girl who later becomes a women name Aminata. Throughout the book, Aminata tells readers about the many downfalls and experiences she has been through when in slave by the white men. Some of the themes that relate to this book are Freedom, Determination, wisdom, love and family teaching, Hardship/brutality, and death. During the crucial years of slavery, colored people were forced to serve white people against their will. There are so many black people wanted to be free.
The books that are being compared and contrasted are both about The Civil War and what these soldiers went through. Each book has a few differences that separate them. The books are based on the same time period so they are going to have a lot in common. The books describe what both characters had to go through during the war. The differences in the book will show you how each soldier went through the war differently and the similarity’s will show you how it was for most of the soldiers in the Civil War.
They are both very different and very alike and that is why they appeal to the readers of dystopian stories. They make the readers think about the future what might happen. Works
