Jackie Robinson was the first African American player in the MLB (Major League Baseball.) Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919. In the early 1940´s Robinson met nurse-in-training Rachel Isum Robinson, while they were both attending the University of California. Robinson fought very hard to play on an all white MLB team called the Brooklyn Dodgers and eventually made it in 1947. Jackie Robinson was an amazing baseball player with a batting average of .311, 137 homeruns, 197 stolen bases, and .409 on base percentage!

African Americans didn't have very many rights. Without a doubt he had to fight for all of his rights to be an equal individual.
After that day, Jackie went to play in the minor leagues. He constantly dealt with racism. Some people wouldn’t even show up to the game because Jackie was on the team. In 1947, Robinson was called up to the major league to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers. On April 15, 1947 he became the African American to ever play major league baseball.
When Robinson joined the Royals, even some of his new teammates were outraged at having an African-American on their team. People in the crowds often booed Robinson, and he and his family received death threats. Despite the racial issues, Robinson had an outstanding season with the Royals, leading the league with a .349 batting average and .985 fielding percentage. His successful year with the Royals allowed him to join the Dodgers. Robinson played his first game at Ebbets Field on April 15, 1947, making history as the first black athlete to play Major League Baseball.

Thesis From the mid 1910s to the early 1960s there were many riots that occured, because of racial tensions built up between the the whites and the blacks world wide. Coming from Will Brown being accused of rapping a young white girl, and to Eugene Williams having rocks thrown at him causing him to drown. Segregation at this time was unjustified due to racism still being heavily considered as the right thing to do. These riots caused the United States to be even more segregated, due to unequal rights and no laws being created at the time to help and protect African Americans. During these riots there were cases of police brutality and whites being able to do whatever they choose to do, because they felt as if it was a justified reason to stop the African Americans from rioting.
