In your journey, you may come across artworks that appear similar; however, it is highly unlikely that you will encounter artists who work in the same manner. When presented with two artists, how do we effectively compare and contrast them? Instead of stating our opinions on the artists and expressing who we believe is better or worse, we focus on analyzing their differences identifying similarities, and recognizing the influence their art has had on society. In this paper, we will discuss the similarities and differences between Georgia O'Keeffe's and Frida Kahlo’s art, along with the impact that their pieces have had on the art we know today. Georgia O'Keeffe and Frida Kahlo, two prominent female artists of the 20th century, share several
In comparing the two readings between Titu Cusi Yupanqui and Pedro Sancho, one will find many similarities and many differences that took place. There does seem to be factual accounts when comparing both sides of the story between Titu Cusi Yupanqui and Pedro Sancho. However, Titu Cusi Yupanqui goes into greater detail about the events that took place, whereas, Sancho is very short and gives very little details in regards to the events that happened. The accounts that Titu Cusi Yupanqui tell of seem to be more believable and factual than that of the Spaniard, Pedro Sancho. The Spaniards, such as Pedro Sancho, seemed to be very deceitful and untrustworthy, making their accounts of the events that happened very hard to believe.
Japanese-Americans were not aloud to have cameras in the camps, so Miné used her artistic abilities.¨ Internees were not allowed to to have cameras, but Miné wanted to document what was happening inside the camps. Also, in terms of style, Roy Lichtenstein’s way to use the strokes really inspired me, and I believe, using visible and heavy strokes is a sign that shows artist’s control on
The family of Luis Rodriguez, like many Mexican Americans in the border regions from the 1950’s to the 1960’s, faced much disparity in the social and economic realm of their new homes and communities. Living in the United States, they believed, would allow for growth and opportunities not possible in Mexico. In their quests to lead a better life, the heads of many households had to work hard and long hours in order for the sustainment of their livelihood and in Luis Rodriguez’s case, both of his parents worked long and hard hours. Rodriguez’s parents wanted better for their family, but their journey to Los Angeles would forever change the trajectory of the life they envisioned for their family and, namely, for Luis Rodriguez. Born in El Paso, Texas, the Rodriguez family moved back and forth between the border and the region of Chihuahua, Mexico.
To begin, Lisa Fernandez points out, “I make my weaknesses my strengths and my strengths stronger.” I think she means that she doesn't want to have weaknesses. So, instead of worrying about her weaknesses, she makes them better and her strengths even stronger than they were. Lisa was just a young girl who started as a weak young player that worked hard to make herself into a famous softball player. She was really just a girl who loved the game of softball.
In the Dominican Republic, General Rafael Trujillo 's dictatorship is being judged within the eyes of the four Maribal sisters. In the story "In the Time of the butterflies" by Julia Alvarez the four sisters that are all strikingly different, are contemplating on whether to follow along with the anti- Trujillo movement. Minerva being the most dominant one out of all the sisters, is first to follow through against Trujillo. Alvarez involves feminism, rhetorical and literary devises, and portrayed various themes in her novel. Along with showing the strong relationship, and the differences between the four sisters, they showed us readers the true meaning of family.
A famous artist once said “What I would rather do is to paint something beautiful”, Alma Thomas. Throughout her entire life Alma Thomas have created many paintings that hang up on museums walls where everybody was able to recognize that was a painting done by Alma Thomas. Not only did she spend time painting famous art work, Alma Thomas was an art teacher who taught at Washington D.C. schools for over 35 years. A combination of these genres made her one of the few artists that was able to incorporate these into her music. While introducing these genres, she still kept the more traditional ”rancheras” and made
Edgar Degas’ The Singer in Green, and Jan Vermeer’s the Milkmaid were created out of two different mediums, but also feature active women. The Singer in Green is a beautiful drawing done on light blue laid paper, with pastels. Even with a use of pale colors, Degas was able to make a vibrate image.
Although she detests surrealism, her work was influenced by surrealism and had an enormous impact on Latin American art. European art movements have always influenced Latin America and inspired
Takashi Murakami is believed to be the founder of this art movement. She follows this movement very well, and her color choices help her as well. Her color palette is bright, but has earthy tones as well, indicative of Japanese Contemporary art. Her paintings are usually landscapes that have an overall smooth-looking texture. Her artwork flows together, and is cohesive.

Frida Kahlo created many glorious pieces. One of her most intriguing pieces is The Two Fridas. The image is quite symbolic and meaningful. Kahlo was a Mexican artist greatly known for her self portraits and the pain, passion and feminism of her paintings. The name of the piece I choose to analysis is Las dos Fridas, also known as The Two Fridas.
My piece that I chose to stare at for 20 minutes was Gino Severini’s Armored Train in Action. I chose this piece to spend my time at, particularly because of the way the composition is set up so that the train looks like it’s coming right at you, and the way that the artist uses not only tone, but his brush strokes also to create depth in the painting. Severini paints very colorfully and uses lighting and shadow, and if you look closer depending how the thing he is drawing or painting bends or folds, he will keep his brush strokes in that direction to show the bend not only with color but with the strokes in the paint themselves. George Seurat’s brush strokes come a lot to mind when i see them, but more in an organized fashion. Gino Severini was born April 7th, 1883 in Cortona Italy.
