How are Romeo & Juliet similar and different when compared to “the Outsiders”? Both stories have a theme similar; that theme being “Differences shouldn’t separate and cause problems for all”, while also the characters being similar in certain traits and how rivalry plays into the stories is very close. Yet also having differences in those traits depending on either story. First, the rivalry in both Romeo & Juliet compared to “The Outsiders” are largely similar. It's the Socs and Greasers fighting in the book “The Outsiders” while in Romeo & Juliet it's the Montagues and Capulets who fight. Both sides have their reasons on why they are fighting each other but the main reason in “The Outsiders” is because of social classes, this is different compared to Romeo & Juliet because the Montagues and Capulets also fight in this story, but for a different reason than the greasers and Socs. …show more content…
In “The Outsiders” many of the characters aren’t able to talk to each other or build bonds because of their rivalry between the Socs and Greasers. In Romeo & Juliet the conflict between the Montagues and Capulets doesn't allow Romeo or Juliet to fall in love without problems arising, It's the same in “The Outsiders”. Dally and Cherry both like each other and it tells us this in chapter 6 when dally had asked out cherry and she said no, even though she said no to Dally, Ponyboy knows she does like Dally. They wish they could be together but can't even talk to each other because Cherry is a Soc and is held to a higher standard compared to Dally who is a
