Gil Jungers appropriation of Shakespeare's ‘Taming of the Shrew’ into the modern teen film ‘10 things i hate about you’ is a successful appropriation because it appeals to a contemporary audience. Appropriation is when composers use other texts to construct new texts by appropriating parts of other texts. The sisters Katherine and Bianca. Katherine is a difficult person in both texts. In the play she's described as “Cursed and Shrewd”. In the film Joey calls Kat a “Bitter self-righteous hag” she also described as a “heinous Bitch”. Bianca is described as “sweet Bianca” in the play. In the film she described “the favorite” and she was very popular with men just like the play. In both the play and the film the sisters dont get along, in the play Bianca and Katherine fight and Katherine slaps bianca. Slapping Bianca makes Katherine feel superior. In the film Kat and Bianca fight. In the play Lucentio falls in love with Bianca at first sight. He says “ I Brun, I Pine, I Perish Tranio”. Lucentio pretends to be a tutor so he can get closer to Bianca.
