Many people think that the American Dream is a walk in the park but for most people, they can never obtain that dream. The American Dream is one of the most sought things in America by the people who are coming to America. But what people do not realize is more fiction than reality and this causes many problems in society today because it is so deeply rooted in the country’s beliefs. The American Dream is unfair to those who do not have the means and funds to obtain it. It is also so materialistic that it causes riffs in our economy and society as a whole. F. Scott. They try to fill the void with expanse things but in the end, it does not fill the void. Gatsby is a prime example of this because he buys these expensive shirts and throws these lavish parties in hopes that they can fill this void in his heart but it never fills. Daisy also shows this in the novel. “She only married you because I was poor” This quote by Daisy shows that she only married Tom because Gatsby was poor showing that even if she loved him she only cared about causing Daisy to be unhappy because of the money and love. In this society, money and materialistic things are the only things that people care about and will do anything for. But this race for money causes riffs on normal things. A quote that shows this is “Money will make a relationship stronger if used wisely, but if misused, it can tear apart even the strongest of bonds”. Saying that money can add some happiness to the relationship and or family but if you over use it or misuse it, it can tear apart a family meaning
