The Hunger Games and The Goonies are very similar and different in many ways in their approach to the Hero’s Journey. The Ordinary World, the Ordeal, and the reward each have many similarities and differences. Each of these shows how the Hero’s Journey can be used in many books and stories. In the Ordinary World in the Goonies and Hunger Games, there are many similarities and differences. One difference is that in The Hunger Games, Katniss is doing everything for her family from hunting and trading to entering her name in for the Tessera, while in The Goonies, most of what the kids do is driven by their friends and their humor and entertainment, such as Chunk eating food at a pizza place, or Brand working out, or Andi doing cheer. One of these differences is in the Hunger Games, for the Ordeal, Katniss is facing only one challenge with Peeta, the mutts, as Cato was busy most of the time from either catching his breath or fighting the mutts to survive, while in the Goonies, they are faced with multiple challenges between playing the piano, fighting the Fritelies, swimming away from the ship, finding a way out of the cave, walking the plank, and Sloth fighting the Fritelie brothers. This shows that the Goonies had a more broad ordeal compared to the Hunger Games which only posed one problem, while the Goonies were met with multiple. Another difference in the ordeal in The Goonies compared to The Hunger Games was in the Goonies, the ordeal had been chasing them the whole time, as the Fritelies got closer and closer to them, and as they got closer and closer to the piano and the ship. Another difference between the Goonies and Hunger Games is that the reward in the Hunger Games is given to them when they go home, they automatically get to use the reward, while in the Goonies, they have to wait to pay off the bills and keep their homes, which requires much more effort compared to the Goonies. However, that being said, a similarity between The Hunger Games and Goonies is that in both stories, after the big event, they both get to go home and see their family members again after a hard-fought challenge. Another similarity in both stories between the rewards is that they aren’t alone when they receive their reward, whether it’s the Goonie's case and getting to see their families all together or in the Hunger Games when Peeta and Katniss get to go home and get their new homes together.
