Malcolm X once said, “You can’t separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has freedom” This quote is what Simon Bolivar lived his life by.
Simon Bolivar was born on July 24th, 1783 and passed away on on December 17th, 1830. Between this time period, Bolivar gained fame for his liberations of Latin America. He led liberations against Spain and France and helped Latin America gain their freedom. When he was done helping liberate Latin America, he did not rest. On a trip to Rome with his mentor Simon Rodriguez, Bolivar vowed that he would liberate his country (Simon Bolivar). This was the beginning of Simon Bolivar’s impact on the Latin American Revolution. Only a year after Simon Bolivar’s return, the Latin American independence movement was in full affect (Simon Bolivar). Once he arrived, plans were made, and action began to take place. One reason Bolivar was so successful in the liberation, was his ability to say meaningful things that convinced people to join along with his great ideals. Bolivar once said liberty was the only thing man should sacrifice his life for. He said liberty was freedom from a colonial power and independence under a liberal constitution (Spanish Revolutions). Bolivar did not just say this, he lived by these words. Bolivar then became very disappointed when anarchy and violence came upon his newly liberated states. He said, “Independence is the only benefit we have gained, at the cost of everything else” (Spanish revolutions). This was not what he had worked towards. Another reason Bolivar was so successful is because he was around resistances and conspiracies often. Bolivar’s tutor Simon Rodriguez was caught after a failed conspiracy and Bolivar was sent to a military academy at age 14 (McDermott). Bolivar felt that England would be great at helping with the liberations and he focused much of his energy on them. When the liberations first began, Bolivar went to England to gain help. He failed but he got England to notice and remember him (Simon Bolivar). Being able to get them to notice him would help him later. When Bolivar was exiled, he still looked to England for help and he wrote the “La Carta de Jamaica” that told of Mexico’s, Chile’s, and Argentina’s plan (Simon Bolivar). This plan convinced England to help with the liberation. Bolivar was well respected and his people showed it, as well as people do today. Bolivar was very good at getting people from all different types of life to like him. Bolivar gave land to the Peruvian Indians, and after this he gained their respect (Spanish Revolutions).
