Evaluation Single System Research Design in A Female Client in A Nursing Home Single system research design is a form of research that allows professionals to compare the performance of a single system before and after treatment. The single system may be an individual person, a single group, a single family, or a single organization. The goal in single system is to encourage positive behaviors, reduce negative behaviors. The target problem is equivalent to the dependent variable in group designs. It does not to be a problem behavior, but could also be a strength to be encouraged. Selected Intervention Motivational interviewing was designated method of Nancy’s treatment. Motivational interviewing is therapeutic style that is client centered, helps people work through problems, and enhances individuals to readiness to commit to change (Hettema, Steele, & Miller, 2005). According Hettema, Steele, & Miller (2005), “Motivational interviewing places strong emphasis on eliciting the client 's own perceptions, values, and motivations for change.” Measurement Tools After beginning treatment and social services implemented the instrument tool short survey. According to Institute for Healthcare Improvement (2004), “Short surveys are intended to provide just enough simple and prompt feedback to tell you whether your attempts to improve are going in the right direction.” The instrument is 1 to 5 questions that will present the information needed (Institute for Healthcare Improvement, 2004). Social services will collect the surveys on a weekly basis during the treatment. The null hypothesis determined that client will not elicit change to complete the three-week intensive treatment for healing her toes. Variables to measure The client was given the short survey once a week after receiving treatment. Since social services did not work at the facility, the survey was conducted over the phone. The client and family approved to take the survey. The survey consisted of five questions and the answers ranged from 1 (Excellent) to 5 (Poor). At the end of the survey, social service asked the client if she had any comments or concerns about the treatment or hospital. The information helps social services and team to know whether if the changes and treatment are showing improvement. Limitations Since social services did not work at the hospital, social services cannot be there to monitor if the treatment is doing well. The surveys were conducted over the phone which does not allow social services to be with the client. Also, social services would have to contact the social worker at the hospital to discuss comments or concerns the client has instead of doing the follow-ups on her
