Sir Thomas Malory was an English writer in 1470, whose identity was unclear, although he is the author of Le Morte d’arthur. This book was one of the first stories in English of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Sir Thomas Malory is not a widely known for the reason other writers took his work he is known, however, as the father of the Arthurian legend. In the 16th century the identity of Malory was still unknown.
In Le Morte d’arthur, the author calls himself “Syr Thomas Maleore Knyght.” From Malory’s statement it has been assumed that in his younger age he had been Knighted. Malory was then arrested and was sent to various jails throughout the 1450s. In 1462 Malory was released from prison and joined the fighting on the side of the Yorkists by following Earl Warwick. Warwick later switched sides to the Lancastrians, afterwards Malory decided to follow Warwick. During 1468 Malory was excluded from a granted pardon by Edward IV. Malory was sent to prison once again. When Malory was in jail, he escaped and afterwards he was in a state known to the medieval men as the darkest of depravities, which meant he had to resort to stealing from churches.(BRYAN, ERIC)
Malory broke into the Abbey and opened two of the Abbots’ chests and stole sacred objects along with money. Malory later came back with more men. They broke eighteen doors, along with stealing even more money from the Abbey. During the remaining years of his life, the majority of it was spent as a criminal excluded from pardon. Malory finished Le Morte d’arthur around the year of 1470 while he was still in prison. Malory died on March 4th of 1471 and was buried in the chapel of St. Francis near Newgate, London. The Book of Merlin tells how Merlin helped Uther Pendragon, bring Arthur to the stone so Arthur would be king. Merlin helped Arthur get the sheath of Excalibur from the water witch in the lake after Arthurs fight with Sir Pelanor. Lastly is the fatal end of the book. Merlin was killed by his own student ,Vivian, after he had taught her everything he knew. The way Vivian did it was unconventional. Merlin could not die, so Vivian decided to cast a spell on him to where he could not move.
