The state of Colorado again holds the title of “Skinniest State in the United States”. Boulder, Colorado, is the skinniest town in all of America; which correlates to the obesity rate of 12.1%. With the bering pressures of the eating healthy and the constant need to exercise, it’s a given fact that it affects the average life of the Colorado student body; however, not always in a positive way. Is the 12.1% due to the student body who constantly feels pressured by majority of campus being relatively skinny or underweight?
The infamous ‘Skinniest State in the United States’ reputation is very apparent in campus culture. It would appear to have a positive influence on the older community because it provokes a healthier lifestyle, which is needed as we grow older. Many students do not understand that they are already incredibly underweight due to the above disorders. This creates a vicious cycle that they are not as skinny or fit as their roommate, neighbor, or friend. They see someone who they see as the “ideal” weight, due to that eat less or exercise more, then become exceptionally unhealthy, only to repeat the cycle with another “ideal” body type or weight. This "ideal" type engraved in their minds, it makes it impossible for a student struggling with body image to feel comfortable in their own
