When looking at the civil war, I instantly think that slavery was the leading cause. This is not the case for everyone though. Some historians believe that it was economics while others think it was politics. Well I believe that slavery is still the prevailing cause. When thinking about economics and politics, the core of those issues have to do with slavery. Every issue that I could think of that has to do with the Civil war, has slavery in with it. It was such a huge issue during this time and people felt so strongly towards it whether they were for it or against it. Looking at men like John Brown who risked his life for slavery shows just how passionate people were on this issue. Therefore, I believe that the leading cause to the civil war was slavery because it plays hand in hand with every other issue and still prevails to be the most dominant cause. During the time of the rising middle class and the great awakening, women started seeking more work outside of their homes. Men such as David Walker, a free slave, prompt slaves to rebel against their owners. A highly known Rebellion was thrown by Nat Turner. Nat Turner was a slave who led 70 other slaves on a revolt in August of 1831. This revolt was against their owners on plantations. The band of slaves went around killing white people who were on these plantations. Eventually the owners ended up getting the upper hand and gained control over the rebellion. The results ended up with executions and selling any other slaves that the owners feared were going to rebel. Even though this rebellions fire had the water thrown on it, Nat Turners revolt sparked fear into slave owners that this could happen again.
