It is completely true to say that slavery was the cause of the civil war. There were other factors that added on to this as in religion, people’s economic statuses and power, but the main component of it all was slavery. It is clear that enslaving people is completely wrong, but it’s obvious a lot of southerners decided to do otherwise. In the south, the primary source of income stemmed from agricultural work. The southerners relied on others to do all of the work for them while they sat back and made money off of the slaves. Instead of being hard-working independent beings, they were dependent on slaves. Without slaves, southerners wouldn’t have a choice but to work for themselves, serve themselves and complete all the other duties they had the slaves do. Since this had been the norm for them for a while, if anything the last thing they would want to do is to get rid of slavery. …show more content…

The northerners were more advanced and had a bigger population than the south. The northerners moved to a more industrial time period where they had factories and perused free labor. The northerners were more self-sufficient and already moved past slavery. Though they didn’t do it for equality reasons, they still believed it was time to give up. A lot of the northerners viewed the southerners as lazy and said it was due to slavery. If anything they north wanted to stir far from it. Slavery was the main reason for the civil war, but of course there were other factors that had an effect on it. In America, religion was big, a lot of white Christians started to believe they were the Israelites that are mentioned in the Bible and realized they were acting more like the Egyptians. This caused them to want to clean up their ways and stop slavery. Along with this, you had other Christians that wanted to prove points by saying if that’s the case, slavery is completely acceptable because in the Bible almost everyone had
