The men’s lacrosse team participated in the annual IronPigs Suites-N-Treats event on Thursday, October 26 to represent the Cops ‘N’ Kids organization. This event provides an opportunity for children from throughout the Lehigh Valley who are of special needs or underprivileged to have a unique Halloween experience. This is the third year that the men’s lacrosse team has participated and were able to create a memorable night for over 800 children. “We are who we are because of the support we receive from the community, and I am pleased to say that DeSales students and staff have demonstrated their appreciation for who we are and what we hope to accomplish in our mission of ‘connecting kids and community through literacy’”, says Beverly Bradley,
The Stanley Cup originated in Canada after Lord Frederick Arthur Stanley of Preston decided that since the sport was so popular there should be a form of championship between the teams. Lord Stanley donated a silver bowl to the Ametuer Hockey Association of Canada for the prize of the championship. The cup was originally called the Dominion Challenge Trophy, but was soon renamed the Stanley Hockey Championship Cup in 1893 after its founder. Hartland Varsity Hockey: A team built on hard work, passion, respect, and most importantly, a shared love for the game of hockey. This team has left its mark on me and will continue to do so for the rest of my life. I’ve been in hundreds of locker rooms for several different sports throughout my life, but not one of those other locker rooms even compares to the significance of the Hartland Varsity Hockey locker room. It is an extreme honor be a part of the special Hartland Hockey culture that exists within my family and anyone who has ever been a part of the team, and the locker room is undoubtedly the greatest representation of that.
There are two sports that are most associated with the city of Buffalo, ice hockey and football. Perpetuated and made popular by professional organizations like the NFL and NHL, hockey and football have major advantages over less publicized sports. As a result, Buffalonians overlook some of our best athletes because they are not playing one of the mainstream sports. In this city, a city many people would call a hockey town, Buffalo has committed a great injustice by forgetting our history of speedskating and figure skating. Multiple people who were born and raised in the city of Buffalo went on to win national titles and even skate for our nation in the Olympics in speedskating or figure skating.

Many agree on the fact that men 's sports are overall more entertaining because of the fast pace and aggression men possess that women lack. A sport that is impacted by this notion is women 's lacrosse.
Given in the graph is the information about the percentage of people living in Canada participating in the ten most popular sports in 1998 and 2005. It becomes immediately obvious that ice hockey and gofl were all the rage in these years. Overall, there was a decrease in the participation rates in various types of sports during the period given. As can be seen clearly, in 1998, gofl was the most common sport in Canada, which had the highest participation rates with just 22 %, followed by ice hockey with over 18%.

The game of hockey today is getting faster and faster, the players are getting bigger and more skilled than ever. Young players coming up from major junior hockey and players coming out of college are all faster, stronger and more skilled. Players today come into training camp already in shape where as players years ago came into training camp to get in shape. That alone is one major reason why the game is so much faster today. Most good players today have rich families or their father was in the NHL.
The Miracle on Ice inspired many players around the country to believe that anything is possible and also introduced them to the sport of hockey. Part of the reason there was such a large increase in hockey participation after the game was because hockey became a national sport, instead of being a “northern sport.” The spread of hockey needed a tipping point, and this moment was it. The game also inspired many people to go on and play hockey including into the high levels, as they wanted a shot to do what that team had done. Hockey in America continued to grow into the southern parts of the country like Arizona, Nevada, and Florida.
