Small Thriving Businesses Extinction Imagine walking down main street in a small town, you notice there are many unique stores in which you have never come across. After walking into countless stores you are starting to notice they all have one thing in common. What possibly could all these diverse stores have in common, they all have a 12” by 10” sign with white lettering and red background saying Help Wanted. Small business owners need to use the comparison of employment rates within the rural and urban area. With the dramatic decrease of youth in rural areas, urban youths be aware of the decrease, there opportunity to get a job is at all time high. Carr and Kefalas persuade business owners to speak up and reach out to the urban youth. “ More than seven hundred rural counties that have lost 10 percent of their population since 1980” ( Carr and Kefalas 20). By the rural areas decreasing there population every year, the people are leaving due to job opportunities in the urban area. Creating it harder for urban youth to get a job, so by them getting the statistics knowledge of the youth leaving the rural areas they will be aware of the job opportunities in rural communities. One thing about rural areas which urban youth lack the knowledge of knowing it that we offer very unique things, no matter where you are you get the feeling of comfort, familiar, and warmness. As a entrepreneur to be successful lets take advantage of the unique things. Lets be outgoing, reach out to the urban teenagers to bring our businesses at high for employment. If it is needing to bring more entertainment, as a small business owner we need to be outgoing an want to keep the people in the area.“Young people have always left small towns to attend college, but by the early 1990’s there were more opportunities and more compelling reading to do than ever before” (Carr and Kefalas 24). We need to bring back the opportunities that we used to have, rural areas used to be so successful, but now they are going into extinction.
