Claudia Kolker’s book “The Immigrant Advantage” (Oct 2011) is a book that touched on the advantages of immigrants coming to the U.S. bringing along their customs, religions, teachings, and traditions. Kolker wants to inform readers that there are good things that come from immigrants like food, fashion, vocabulary, and customs. Kolker points out in her book that there is many ways that immigrants benefit to succeed from others in everyday life. For Example, “The Vietnamese Money Club” (Kolker 19) it is said that to start a money club you need people that you trust from 3-6 people at the least. They all need to pitch in a certain amount of money aside and who turn it is first they get all the money.
Bridgeton, New Jersey is well known for having a large Latino/Hispanic population. The fact that I am also Mexican-American makes it easier to relate to surrounding Latino population because I have come across situations that show the gains and losses of migrating from another country. Up to this date my dad always repeats to us that if it were not for his children he would have left back to his hometown in Guerrero because he does not feel a sense of belonging in the United States even though he has been here for more than 25 years. As stated in the chapter one of the main reasons why many Latinos decide to migrate is in search of a better future for themselves and their loved ones. As a social worker I am able to relate to the Latino population because I understand their culture on a personal level, however those that are not able to have that experience this chapter helps convey one of the many struggles that the Latino population has to face and how to properly go about
As the representatives of the Latino community in eastern NC AMEXCAN must navigate the difficulties of US immigration law. This includes dealing with the fear and anxiety felt by undocumented immigrants. AMEXCAN often must seek out its community members. Latino communities often for fear or for unfamiliarity do not seek out services. Additionally, it is often true that Latino communities are culturally disinclined to accept assistance.
Many immigrants wanted to work to live better than they did in their hometowns. As companies in the United State emerged, workers founded themselves in hunger for jobs. Many workers where unskilled and most of them could not read, write, or understand the American language. However, they made their way into companies like the steel company along in JP Morgan’s and John D Rockefeller’
An example of success by an immigrant was Andrew Carnegie who went from “rags through riches” by practicing discipline and being “honest, truthful, fair-dealing” (Doc D). He advocates basic principles to lead other immigrants to success by telling them to work hard, aim high, be diligent and wise with their money. Instead of being pulled into the life of crime, immigrants are responsible for their own success and should put in work to integrate themselves into and thrive in society. Furthermore, there were many institutions made to help immigrants make proper adaptations to American life, such as the one founded by Jane Addams. Addams critiqued the teachers’ ways of forcing a type of acculturation unfit for immigrant families and instead used the education system to force foreign children to assimilate through American learning (Doc H).
ownership Singh & Denoble, (2004). According to Waldinger, Aldrich and Ward (1990) highlight that, if migrants are active in the primary market, which is the four possible factors: - Lower-developed markets that businesses have neglected; - Their business ownership has little economies of scale; - Their market is characterised by different food; - Their market segment is aimed at immigrant only. Majority immigrant business owners involve in the ethnic limited products, which is represented by importation and exportation of, or retail stores for, migrant’s goods and services Butler and Green, (1997). Most authors have stated that ventures begun by migrant business owners are minor and generate little growths of income Butler and Greene, (1997).
Texas has been fighting hard against the Obama Administration's attempts to give illegals citizenship. The governor of Texas is now cracking down on cities in the state are offering sanctuaries to illegal immigrants. Greg Abbot recently wrote a letter to Sheriff Lupe Valdez stating that Texas will not put up with the sanctuary nonsense that other states are offering, such as California. Lupe recently announced that she would make decisions on a case by case basis about whether to detain illegal immigrants. However, Abbot stated that Lupe is trying to endanger the people that she has vowed to protect.
Is Odysseus a good leader? George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr, these are just some examples of great leaders. People look up to them, believe in them, and even trust them with their lives. They are great leaders for many things like personal traits and characteristics. They also are trusted because they are good at what they do, they have high success rates.
Many of the people who emigrated to the US were known as “birds of passage” because their only purpose for immigration was to get a job, earn a sufficient amount of money, and return to their native land to support their family. The other immigrants also came to America to find a job, but their purposes were more long-term. Turmoil and low quality of life in Europe sparked a mass migration from places like Russia, Japan, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. Thus, this large number of immigrants provided a readily available workforce, desperate for any job that paid a wage. The effects of immigration’s role in the rise of Big Business are not just limited to the new technology and ideas from Europe, but also the increased belief in the middle class and urbanization.
One of the reasons there is so much immigrant population in this country is because of the economy. In the past, immigration was helpful to the economy when people encouraged it so that the it could become prosperous and bring in diversity and help needed. Today, many people are afraid of losing their jobs. Immigration is currently flooding the labor market, primarily in the low-skill, low-wage sectors, and driving down wages and working conditions for many Americans because our immigration policies do not take economic conditions into account. Illegal immigration probably has its greatest impact on the United States’
The representatives of the ethnic minorities across the United States have been experiencing certain issues when starting their own businesses for decades. However, nowadays, the amount of the businesses owned by the people of color increases rapidly. The representatives of various races and ethnic groups are now free to start their businesses and attain the recognition of the partners and the customers across the country. Nowadays, the only obstacle the majority of people who moved to the US from the countries of Latin America meet on their way to success is the lack of commitment. Consequently, the Latino people are allowed to organize and maintain their own businesses on the territory of the US as well as all the citizens of the country
For my research paper, I plan to discuss the driving factors that attract Mexican immigrants to Los Angeles. Specifically, I want to argue that Mexican immigrants are the backbone of the industrial sector of Los Angeles. Their presence has transformed the city of Los Angeles and has helped the city economically. In my research, I want to look at the neighborhood of Vernon. Vernon itself is a very industrial area with massive companies and factories located there.
The workforce in most industrialized countries is aging and becoming more age-diverse. And immigrant workers play a large and important role in our economy and society. As child-care providers, food preparation workers, home health care aides, software programmers and construction workers, these workers constitute a significant labor force and provide services that millions more workers depend upon. Currently, I am working with a significant shortage of certified nursing assistants (CNAs) in our CCRC communities.
Another way I feel Mexican American will play a big role in my business it that they will apply for a job at my business. I will have to deal with hiring Mexican American because they have the right to apply for the job. I will need to let them have time off to be with their family as they are very family oriented. I learned from researching Mexican American that they
Have you ever wondered why immigrants are getting deported each year and being separated from their children? Immigration is the action of coming permanently in a foreign country. It is significant to have immigrants here in the United States because they help the country grow financially by starting their own business. In the United States there are many hispanic restaurants such as Mexican, Guatemalan, Honduran, Salvadoran, etc. Having immigrants is like a tool for us because if we ever have a flat tire and you take it to the mechanics it's usually a hispanic man helping and if they are nice enough they won’t charge you anything.
