Snowboard Lab Report

The experiment was conducted to test the width and length of a snowboard and how it affects the speed. To test the variables there were two snowboards one wider and longer than the other one. They were then put to the test to see what one was faster by running them down a small snow slope. After the experiment the data were then compared and showed that the hypothesis was incorrect. The wider and longer board or known as the independent variable went down the hill faster.

Introduction
There are hundreds of factors that contribute to the speed and stability of a snowboard. Some of the main ones are length, width, and size of the snowboard. That is what this focus is on; the width and the length of snowboard and how it affects speed. First, there are the size and the surface area a snowboard has. The more surface area the more friction the snowboard has therefore slowing down the speed (“madsci”). There …show more content…

The data found throughout the experiment did not support the hypothesis. In fact it supported the opposite. The data found in the experiment (see appendix 1), showed that the wider and longer board, although with more surface area, did go much faster than the control’s average speed. On the average runs the control went a whole thirty seconds slower than the independent did. During trial one there was few flaws on the run down. Meaning there were no trips or accidents that could have occurred when going down; giving the best possible results. Although with the minimal flaws in trial one, the data still showed that the control was much slower than the independent, proving the hypothesis wrong (see appendix 1). With this data showing that the hypothesis was wrong, there was already a set expectation for the rest of the
