The book So B It, by Sarah Weeks circles around a lucky 12 year old girl named Heidi. Heidi wants to take a risky journey going to Liberty, New York, to learn the truth and her history. This young girl lives with her mother, Mama, who only can speak 23 words, because of her mental disorder. Their neighbor, Bernadette tries to help them out but also suffers from her own condition, agoraphobia. It causes her to have anxiety or severe fear when leaving her own. In other words, she can’t go outside. One day, Heidi discovered 23 pictures and became curious as to what they were about. In the book So B It, by Sarah Weeks, the main character, Heidi, a 12-year-old, should not go to Liberty, New York, alone. Heidi's family is dependent on her. "My mother loved me in her own special way, but she couldn’t take care of me herself because of her bum brain (Weeks, chapter 2)." Mama, Heidi's mother, suffers from a mental disability and has no way to care for herself. She relies on Heidi and their neighbor, Bernadette, to do everything for her. Additionally, Bernadette also suffers from agoraphobia, which makes her unable to leave her house. Heidi is basically in charge of everything. As someone who easily puts her guard down and trusts strangers too often, she puts herself in a situation where she is at risk of potential danger. As said, Heidi has no one to rely on, so she is desperate to make new friends. This would make her unaware of their true selves when she would trust them within a day. It is important for Heidi to establish trust over time rather than trusting individuals too quickly. Heidi going to Liberty would make everything confusing for her. Heidi shouldn’t go to Liberty, not only because she has no one to rely on, but also because she is too immature to understand the truth.
