Literature Review Social science “is a science that studies the influences of our situations, with special attention to how we view and affect one another” (Myers & Twenge, 2013, p. 2). There are three primary components in the study of social psychology, (a) human behavior, (b) the causes of human behavior, and (c) studying human behavior with a systematic approach (Delamater, Collett, & Myers, 2015). Social psychologists not only investigate behavior but the feelings, thoughts, emotions, and causal relationship of these factors. 187). To determine the cognitive predictors, Lee and Hayes-Skelton, (2018) examined models of behavior in conjunction with current models of social anxiety disorder. A qualitative correlational research design was employed to investigate the correlation between social cost bias, probability bias, self-efficacy and behavioral action. Using a non-clinical sample, a series of situations were presented to the participants, such as speaking in public or going to a party and talking with people they do not know, and others. After each vignette participants were asked to answer specific questions designed to indicate the level of social anxiety and what participants expected or believed would happen to them in these situations. The results of the study supported previous research that probability bias, social, cost bias, and self-efficacy separately account for a significant variance. Additionally, the findings suggest that social anxiety is significantly related to behavioral action (Lee & Hayes-Skelton). This study builds on the research of Lee and Hayes-Skelton, (2018). In their research, all participants were White, heterosexual, cisgender women. Research informs sociologist that members of minority or non-dominate populations experience additional anxiety. Anxiety levels rise when interacting with members of the dominant or majority population. Therefore research should include a more diverse sample to more accurately account for the lived experiences of individuals with non-dominant identities.
