Social Darwinism is all about the survival of the fittest. The ideas of Social Darwinism were all about maximum working hours and that wealth would go to the people who were most capable of creating it. I think the ideas of Social Darwinism influence foreign policy in the late 1800s and early 1900s by making the U.S. think that they were better than everywhere else in the world. It helped people believe that because of the United States development of cities and our influence in the machine age that we were better and stronger than the rest of the world.

Social Darwinism and the Social Gospel Movement are contrasting systems of belief. Social Darwinism suggests that people are in the social or financial state that they deserve. This appealed to the work ethic that anyone could do well if they worked hard enough. For some, this was a source of inspiration to work hard to excel.
In the late 18th century, after the American Civil War and the beginning of the 19th century, brought more negative compelling effects on the U.S society due to the wide scale growth of Industrialization. Each person’s gender, society class, and nationality are encountered with a particular context or junction where several social categories intercept, called intersexuality. One cannot gain knowledge just but looking at a single thing, like only social class.
One of Trotsky’s observations was that, “...the fascist solution to the capitalist crisis, is the violent seizure of power, and to radically change the conditions of production in favor of the owners of large capital.” Despite the fact that Trotsky was speaking of capitalism, the alt-right movement can use this same mechanism to approach immigration and foreign policy. If they use this mechanism for immigration and foreign policy, they can and will use it for capitalism as well. Lecture six discusses the concept of Social Darwinism. In 1998, W.G Runciman of Trinity College suggested the plan of ‘evolutionary sociology’ to the Darwin Seminar, which was a new phrase to most. His idea was canned quickly due to the fact that it did not go along with the rest in consideration for survival of the fittest. Marx highlighted the struggle between the powerless and powerful which resulted in different societal classes (Fook, 2002). Thompson (2006) states that society is made up of diverse people who make up societal structures and these structures determine and control the destitution of power and opportunities which results in layers of inequality and oppression to people who are marginalised. Radical social work is interested in the examining structures of personal problems, focusing on oppressive practice and self-emancipation and social change (Adams et al, 2005). For this to be achieved professionals need to recognise that individual knowledge might display reality but could also be constructed by society through language, values and beliefs. In order to identify this it is vital for social workers to be able to self-reflect (Adams et al, 2009).
Much of this paradigm dates back to the work of social work theoretician and practitioner William Gordon. Gordon was instrumental in conceptualizing the framework that the understanding and practice social work involved not only internal matters of the respective minds and environments but of their interactions and relationships as well (Heinonen & Spearman, 2001). The ‘ecosystems framework’ is complemented by concepts supported in ‘systems theory’ and ‘ecology’. ‘Systems theory’ stresses the effects of interacting elements where multiple elements are themselves whole, interact and combine to form a whole, and have relationships with other wholes (Heinonen & Spearman, 2001). An open, interactive, system may receive nourishment and sustainability from within itself and from its relationships with others (Heinenon & Spearman, 2001).
