He mentions that people think this affects the young generation and their political views. Nonetheless, Ungar reiterates that the Democratic views have nothing to do with a liberal education, besides the fact that students may choose to pursue a degree in political science. However, having a liberal arts education could be considered a good thing because it prepares students for life by not teaching one single ideology and encourages them to find a solution to a problem in various ways. Ungar also indicates that this technique could benefit students today because they usually only seek information from sources they trust and agree
For the most part women’s history stayed the same from immediately before and immediately after the ratification of the 19th amendment. For example, even though women did have the newly gained right to vote not all of them used it and many women did not vote and would rather go out and have a good time. So, the laws and the politicians that were elected probably did not change or were not affected very much by women gaining the right to vote. Also although more and more women were starting to join the workforce a majority of the women still were housewives and worked domestically within their homes. So, even though they had the newly found freedom of the amendment women still heavily relied on their husbands in all aspects of their lives and many women would vote for a person just because that was the person that their husbands voted for.
Another thing was about women was college educated women helped people
Additionally, women changed socially throughout the 1920s in America. After the passing of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote,
Patriarchy was gradually being abolished, as men usually did the same tasks as women did in family life and liberated women from household work. Therefore, women had more voice in their family affairs at home. In politics, matters were similar, as the rates of female participation in the Communist Party from 1975 to 1986 greatly increased (Doc #9). Women were more integrated in politics after the Cuban Revolution. This is because the government and society were giving them the opportunities for doing so.
In the past, there were several voting restrictions based on gender and race. However, as time progressed, amendments were passed that abolished these restrictions. For instance, the fifteenth amendment forbade voting restrictions based on race. In addition to the fifteenth amendment, the nineteenth amendment has allowed women to vote. There are three major factors that influence how people vote, which are political parties, candidates, and issues.
Team MCC of Harvard conducted a survey targeting around 20,000 students from 59 different middle schools and high schools. According to the results, “[f]orty-percent of teen boys preferred male over female political leaders while only 4% preferred female political leaders with 56% expressing no difference.” It is obvious that there is a gender bias, as most teens don’t exactly prefer female politicians over
As a gay Asian man from a low-income and immigrant family, I have obtained an intersection of various perspectives. I have had many obstacles in my life, such as coming out, struggling financially, and helping my parents navigate this country. These obstacles have provided perspectives that many individuals may not have acquired. They motivate me to help those with similar circumstances to lead happy lives. Providing these different perspectives to Temple University’s student body allows the community to see the diverse aspects of others and to understand more of the various circumstances and complexity of human life.
Although still not entirely popular or accepted, women also began to emerge more and more in postsecondary education. Women were only seldom allowed to go to college in the beginning of the 1920’s and when they did, they attended an all-women's school. By 1921 a woman was enrolled in a college that did not traditionally allow women (Benner). This was a monumental step for women’s educational rights. Women were allowed to graduate and become nurses or teachers, the only careers seen fit for women.
Political republicanism brought forth the republican motherhood that highlighted how women are raising future political leaders in their children, especially their sons. The outcome of such cries led to an increase in education for women who could then teach their
My mother is much more Democratic than my father is. My dad, although he is Jewish, is more economically Republican than my mom is. My mom is a stay-at-home mom who did not grow up with much money, while my dad grew up much richer and works for the world’s second largest life insurance company in the world. He is much more focused on economic issues than social issues, unlike my mother who is more focused on education and equal opportunity for all, regardless of their ethnicity, gender, race, and other characteristics out of one’s control. I am also bothered by a point made by Jackie Calmes in the article “Democrats try Wooing Ones Who Got Away: White Men”.
Most people think it is easy for minorities to succeed but they do not see the struggle but they do not see the struggle one has to go through since they believe it is easy since they are wealthy but they do not see the fact that we aren't. This is critical because they are going to keep treating majorities in a certain way that's not right. It is hard for Blacks and Latinos since they aren't exposed to what it takes to attend great college because the status they are given perceives them as not worthy. Some Students of color get mistreated and some get treated better than others some get great opportunities while others are declined the same opportunities that are given to the ones who get treated better and by that Black and Latino students
Monetary and Societal Obstacles Societal simply comes from the word society and it means relating to society. Monetary refers to money. In our society monetary and societal obstacles can intertwine. These obstacles can even build on each other. Consequently, this can cause bigger problems if they are not handled correctly.
Going to college for many students is just a normal part of life. It is what will enable them to get an education that eventually will lead to get a well-paid job and the resources and the status to live a comfortable life. But for college professor, Andrew Delbanco, the American college has a higher purpose. In the article “College at Risk”, Delbanco states that colleges should be promoting critical thinking among students, through knowledge of the past and the interaction with each other; as well as, help them discover their talents and passions and figure out what they want to do in life. This type of education is called liberal arts and for Delbanco, it represents the ideal education.
Students face various challenges throughout their college career. Thus, the problems that students have can range from balance, new lifestyle, to financial problems. Therefore, finding a balance between being a student, possibly working, and keeping up with their social life is a necessity. Similarly, others are away from home for the first time thus, they have a new responsibility with being on their own and findings ways to deal with homesickness. Likewise, being exposed to new financial situations is yet another challenge college students will need to learn how to cope with.
