During the 1970’s, teens had various forms of entertainment. Without access to computers and the internet, teens were focused on music, movies, and magazines. They listened to music with eight track players. Drive in movies were popular and a frequent place for socializing. Teenagers socialized at school, sports gatherings, and local establishments. Magazines provided new trends for fashion. For example, models in the magazines wore platform shoes, which quickly spread as a popular fashion trend. Hanging out in muscle cars was very popular. To get information for school assignments, students went to the library and researched the subject. News about local and national events were spread by television, radio, and newspapers. The internet has provided a new means of communication. For example, if a student needs to get a message to their teacher, they use email. Teachers utilize the internet for class assignments by email or computer applications. The amount of information provided to today’s teens has increased substantially. Teacher’s used books as the main source for learning. This limited the amount of education teen’s received in the 1970’s. Social media via the internet has changed teen’s today. They are able to have hundreds of friends on their social media website. Before, friends were limited to the local community, now it is not uncommon for teenagers to have friends in different parts of the world. Social media has created a gateway for advertising companies to influence all users. Applications like facebook or instant messenger have provided a way to immediately contact someone without picking up the phone. Teenagers are able to express theirself more with their own websites.
