Why Teens Don’t Need Social Media 85% of teens 13 to 17 have a cell phone. Of that, 91% of that have access to social media. Social media has a negative impact on middle school students because social media causes middle school student to get anxiety/depression, reflects growing narcissism and loses personal experience. Social media has a negative impact on middle school students because it causes anxiety/depression. One reason why is cyber-bullying can make someone feel bad, making their self esteem go down. Cyber-bullying might make someone feel worthless because there really isn't a face to that person. In addition, selfies give the illusion that everyone else has a perfect life, while the viewer's life is below average.
