Social norms or mores are the rules of behavior that are considered acceptable in a group or society. I proceeded to break a social norm on multiple elevators throughout the University. After pressing the elevator button and allowing the doors to open. I get on with ample space to disperse without interfering with anyone’s personal space; however, that is exactly what I set out to do. In most attempts in traditional dorms and social building, I luck up and the boundary of personal space cross, creates a conversation. Because a positive response is not what I was seeking, I take on the task of continuing my practices in contemporary dorms. The scenario boils down to two other individuals and me in an elevator. As the trip up progressed slowly, but surely, an awkward silence emerges, fulfilling the entire elevator. The two other individuals immediately mute their current conversation due to the lack of personal space and privacy. Dissimulating the obvious issue in the confined area, I began to feel stares, though I avoid eye contact. Listening to sighs as the ride continues, the passengers exit the elevator expeditiously. As the door closes on the elevator the conversation continues, but with a frustration and or upset manner. This treatment made me feel as if I was an outcast, and I am most positive that the first impression for me was not that of a good one to the others previously on the elevator. Judging from the taciturn individuals, I could feel the social awkwardness as well as the anticipation to be in relief of that specific situation. Actions such as these affect the
