Social Norms: Film Analysis

There a variety of social norms in this documentary. Norms are defined as the expectations of “right” behavior. All of the families in this documentary have a constant norm of working on the farms planting and gathering crops. The younger children mostly have to work with their parents in the fields. They are expected to do this to help the family’s income. Another norm is that while some of the younger generations go to school, most do not go on to have prominent careers or even graduate. They are meant to continue working on the farms. The second generations of migrant workers are expected to concentrate their work not on school but in the fields. In order to help generate more money, even the children have to work at an early age. They
