Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino is a powerful and entertaining drama that exemplifies several sociological theories discussed over the semester. The movie takes place in Detroit Michigan where a Korean War Vet morns the loss of his wife and, well, his life. The main character, Walt Kowalski, presents as an elder, miserable, bigot, who doesn’t much like what his neighborhood and succeeding generations have become. The movie starts out by clearly defining the generational gap between Walt and his grandchildren who attend their grandmother’s funeral in a less that respectful manner, that is, in Walt’s eyes. The son he raised appears to be less than bothered by his children’s lack of empathy for the loss of their grandmother. Ageism is presented by
