R/s James Maxwell Pittman is believed to be a vulnerable adult due to his mental illness. R/s Mr. Pittman mental capacity is of a 12-year-old. R/s Mr. Pittman lives with his mother, Judy Pittman and it was reported to the reporter that Ms. Pittman is abusing Mr. Pittman. R/s Mr. Pittman has an infection in his mouth and he has not been taken to the dentist. R/s Mr. Pittman is not being made to bathe nor is Ms. Pittman is bathing him.
Setting: Hospital Social Service is a small agency specializing in providing services relation to health, home care, and basic needs assistance. The agency employees consist of over 20 staff that has many years of experiences in health care, home care, and basic needs field. Metro Social Services is a free service agency open to the communities near Birchville, California. Identifying Information: Ms. Joan Cassell is a 23-year-old young Caucasian woman who lives at home with her family.
To choose which one is best would matter on what the goal is and who is being served. They both have the goal of getting someone housed but rapid rehousing is faster as housing is the main concern. PSH may take a little longer as they are also working with the person's health issues as well. For similar reasons, the time spent with the client is different as well with Rapid re-housing spending at most 6 months with a client where as PSH could spend a lot of time in the program as it isn't time sensitive. With a shorter amount of time, social workers in the Rapid rehousing have a short window to do social work, which is fine as most case management focus on getting people into housing and not much else.
3. What are the nursing interventions that can be implemented to facilitate communication between the client and her
The person I chose to interview for this project was Deceil Leanne Moore. Deceil has worked at Meridian Health Services since 1994. She currently holds a Master’s in Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Her current title at Meridian is “Director of Connections”. Connections is a program that formally started in 2004 for clients with intellectual disabilities.
Family Assessment Tools The Calgary Family Assessment Model (CFAM) is a renowned assessment tool used by nurses in conceptualizing and organizing data gathered while working with families(Wright and Leahey, 2009). It is a useful tool both for compiling data for a family assessment as well as in assisting families to deal with specific health issues. The CFAM has three main categories namely: structural which encompasses the internal, external and contextual; developmental which includes stages, tasks and attachments; and functional level which hasthe instrumental (daily living activities) and expressive which includes communication, problem solving, roles, power, beliefs, alliances and coalition(John & Flowers, 2009).
The main emphasis of CFCIP is education, budgeting and money management and career /job skills, although many other topics are covered. CFCIP was funded because it has been proven that most youth who age out of care struggle with the transition into adulthood
1. Even with our medical advances, the United States ranks 29th because of lack of health care for some individuals but also the lifestyle Americans have. Another reason is that class statuses correspond with our health outcomes. What I meant about this, is that lower and middle class individuals are exposed to more health threats than higher class. This is the connections between healthy bodies and healthy bank accounts and race/ethnicity.
The structural component included internal, external, and context. The internal aspect focused on the family composition, order of birth, and boundaries; the external aspect included the extended family (Leahey & Wright, 2016). Context included the broader aspect of patient care, which included their race, ethnicity, social class, religion, and environment (Leahey & Wright, 2016). Development within the CFAM included stages of development and attachments of family members to each other. The functional part of the CFAM included activities of daily living, as well as expressive components which were comprised of communication, problem solving, and roles (Leahey & Wright, 2016).
I began college as a freshman at Central Michigan University thinking I was going to become an elementary teacher. I knew I wanted to make an impact on peoples lives but after my first week of classes, I remember telling myself becoming a teacher is not how I wanted to do it. I went to my counselor and added a social work course to my schedule. I had finally found courses I enjoyed taking and academically excelled in. Which brings me to where I am now, pursuing my degree in social work.
Social workers are in danger on a regular basis. The good news is that the danger is avoidable. The danger lies in being too emphatic and getting traumatized by interactions with clients. This can be a very easy thing to do as social workers as we are caring people. I would consider myself a caring person but have not been affected like this.
I feel that this class has changed my whole perception of what family work is, the importance of not getting caught up in the content and focussing on the process of identifying strengths that the family has which can be used to perpetuate ongoing homeostasis. This course also highlighted for me how much more I still need to learn about supporting the family system. I have been working with families for about 10 years, mostly with supporting positive parenting and also with families who have children and youth experiencing mental health concerns. I feel that my process orientated interactions have been effective for my gathering of information but not necessarily helpful for the long-term healthy coping of the family. By watching you, listening to your teachings and participating and observing role plays I feel that these experiences have led to not only practical knowledge but a new perspective of the importance of stepping back and trying to walk in the client’s shoes.
Over the semester I have learned many new aspects of social work that have helped deepen my understanding of what social work is really about. This course has taught me things that will help me become a better person and will also help me with my future working with children. Self reflection is a key skill to have when working in social work. We need to understand how we are, and our social location, influence everything we do with social work. My beliefs and values would be beneficial for being a social worker because I have a caring no judgment, personality that allows me to be a neutral and to listen to people.
In social care, we work with some of society’s most vulnerable people. For a practitioner to best support an individual they must first be able to care for themselves. There is huge value in being aware of who we are, our strengths and our areas for improvement. This can directly affect the relationships and experiences we have with ourselves, clients, and our peers in social care practice. For this assignment, I will look at the importance of ‘the self’ and personal and professional development in social care.
Firstly, I need to identify the causes and formation of the difficulty situation of my client. I should not involve my own personal emotions when analysing the situation. Next, clarification of the situation is essential. The clients should figure out themselves on how to face the situation. An effective counsellor listen more than talks, and what they do say gives the client a sense of being heard and understood.
