Interview venue: A Re Areng Social Services (Office)
Purpose of interview: To engage with the client in order to gather information that will help in developing the right intervention approach to assist the client in developing coping mechanism for sexual and physical abuse.
The main reason for intervention: The client needs counseling as she struggles to cope and make progress in her life after experiencing both physical and sexual abuse.

Goal for this session
The goal was to develop a working relationship with the client through the development of a positive working relationship in order to uphold trust. According to Shulman (2016: 86) in order to avoid ending the interview before it even gets started by asking unsuitable or controversial questions, preparation may be helpful to the applicant. Additionally, the social worker may find it useful to get a head start by recognising and comprehending their own prejudices and emotions. Therefore, the student read a study guide for (BSW2605 2018: 35) about fundamental communication skills in facilitating interventions with simulated individual cases as well as providing guidance with regard to professional relationships and values of interacting with clients in order to prepare for the session. Preparation on how to contract with the client, according to study guide (BSW2605 2018: 51) a contract is a verbal or a written agreement between two or more members in a group. Therefore, verbal agreement was also utilised to make the client aware that what she will be sharing in the sessions will stay confidential. In social work, communication is the foundation of every therapeutic process. Without communication social workers cannot comprehend the problems and concerns of clients.
