1. Discuss the major reasons for your interest in the profession of social work. The qualities of a social worker are innate to human nature; things like compassion, drive and resilience. The social work profession focuses on solutions for problems in an individual’s social environment, such as mental health, child welfare, and homelessness. Social workers are able to meet a person where they are at that moment in their life and empower them to be the best version of themselves. As a social worker one must always remember to deliver service with humility. The journey to becoming a social worker has been a personal one. This agency provides non-medical case management services to all persons who are affected by HIV/AIDS in Southeast Alabama. I completed a total of 90 hours of field work. My field placement involved, administering HIV tests to the general public, and assisting the social workers with supportive services to the hundreds of clients they served. I also attended HIV 101 seminars and assisted in outreach presentation with the Prevention and Education Coordinator. This experience gave me insight into what it means to be a social worker. I am responsible for management and ongoing development prevention, education and training programs for schools, drug treatment programs, church events, and any other community events as needed. I have been afforded the opportunity to work with individuals of all walks of life. LGBTQ community, people who inject drugs, upper middle class, professionals, and people with disabilities.
