A. I learned a lot of things while i watched the documentary on the MS-13s. They do a lot of things that i never knew people could do. There are so many members in this gang and everyone wants to be higher and higher up each day. A good term from our sociology book that i connected to the documentary was Competition. Competition in biology and sociology, is a contest between two or more organisms, animals, individuals, groups, etc., for territory, a niche, for a location of resources, for resources and goods, for mates, for prestige, for recognition, for awards, for group or social status, or for leadership.
The “Outsiders” made me think about the rules that groups give us are strongly founded on what they see as defiance. It made me think that some rules are given within a group are not remotely necessary and that we as a society are to blame for what is deemed as “socially acceptable”. Deviants may not even be actually deviants but that’s what they are labeled by society because they think, what the deviant did was wrong, which could be made up by what society thinks is okay behavior. The relation to this reading and the sociology course shows how society controls us and how they consider we should act. It reminded me of how society tells us as women that showing off our body parts is deemed as trashy and not lady like, but men can do so without
The documentary called The Hunting Grounds, had multiple concepts that relate to sociology. Using a sociological perspective, it was very prevalent to see the ways college campuses use patriarchy and gender stratification to keep women who have been sexually assaulted on campus from disclosing information or even getting help about these issues. Through the discrimination against women at these gender institutions the women formed a Feminist movement to bring awareness and help to the victims on campuses all around the world and to stop the assaults from reoccurring. The Hunting Grounds is a documentary that reveals the untold stories of women on college campuses and how these women have fought to have their voice heard about sexual assault on campuses. Sexual assault and rape on campuses has always been a major problem for colleges all over the world yet very little has been done to protect the students.
Many social issues are portrayed in television shows because they are common in every society so it makes it easy to relate to the audience. One show in particular that has many social issues that are demonstrated perfectly to the audience is a Netflix original show called “Shameless.” This is a show that focuses on a single family in which the father, Frank, is a deadbeat drunk who is never reliable. The mother, Monica, abandoned the family a year or so after she had the last child, she is mentally bipolar. She shows up occasionally throughout the series, but for the most part is in some unknown place to the audience.
Essay 4 Sociological Insights to Station Eleven “It was gorgeous and claustrophobic. I loved it and I always wanted to escape” (Mandel, 2014, p. 74). When faced with a world of destruction, disease, and chaos, one might insist that they wish for the old world - the one with refreshing swimming pools and television sets that make perfect lives glow on a fluorescent screen before you. Yet, at times, everyone wants to leave that world behind for another; no more first world problems or killing on the T.V. screens, just a chance to start over.
Everyone has a responsibility to do. However, for working student like me that having a part-time job while taking college courses is a big responsibility. I decided to go to school full-time and work part-time to learn to become independent. In the essay “Working at Wendy’s” by Joey Franklin, he makes a case for setting aside pride to provide the daily needs of a family. On the other hand, I think it was great to have the experience as long as it made me more money.
The American Sociological Association (ASA) has multiple parts to its code of ethics all in which values protecting the individual. The Sociologists have a foundation built for them; these guidelines are expected to be followed. Guidelines that are important are as follows: Sociologists as a whole should never strive for anything less than what they deserve. They should also have manners such as respect and being courteous to other in activity they partake in.
College classes are going to be much more demanding and have a lot more works than most classes in High School do. I am able to work at least five hours a day, and still get all my homework done in the same night and I never go to bed any later than eleven. I am a workaholic though, and I feel like I need to be working to stay busy, or I would probably get in trouble. In College, I will not be able to work as much as I usually do, therefore, I will not be able to make as much money as I am used to. If I don't have as much money as I am used to, there is no way I will be able to spend as much money as I like.
Jobs aren’t the easiest thing to get. It is extremely difficult to balance a job with all that work and studying. while in college students have to make money some way, but the only problem with that is time management. everybody likes like buying new clothes, jewelry and personal items. people spend their time in college barely getting by, partying and wasting their time.
We all make the same choice which is to work. Without income there would be nothing to study for because we wouldn’t be able to stay in school. As a result, many grades suffer including my own. There aren’t enough hours in the day to go to school, work, do homework, and study for every class. In my short experience of doing this I have found myself stressed out, sleep deprived, and not doing as well as I possibly could.

In addition, many students hold a part-time job while they are in school, and some work full-time, this path can be very demanding. It can be especially difficult to juggle a full-time job and a full-time course load, and they cannot afford to go to school without working, so they find that trying to work while going to school is too much at once. For instance, people find that they need to start working immediately after school, perhaps because they have bills to pay, they have family obligations, or college is just too far out of reach financially. If many did not work treacherous hours they would not be able to pay a house payment, car payment, and food. Without money none of that is possible. Many of these community college students work either a full time, or part time job. Some community colleges are cheaper than others, but it does cost a lot of money either way which forces these community college students to have a work life and be less involved in school. Therefore, community college students that work have to balance their time between work life and school life which could be a struggle for the students that need a lot of time on their school work.
Since the beginning of modern human civilization, there has always been tension for those who do not share the same color, background, culture, or race. People often tend to stick to those who are similar to themselves while also alienating those for are different and who seem to pose a threat. American History X is about an old brother and younger brother relationship and how one person has the ability to influence the other in a big way. Derek Vinyard, who is the older brother and Danny Vinyard, the younger brother, both live in a white supremacist mentality passed down by their father at an early age through racist comments and stereotypes. Their white supremacist ideology results in the imprisonment of Derek when he murders an African American rival when he attempt to steal his car.
According to the Dictionary, Sociology is defined as the study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society. This means that people are willing to study social problems throughout the world and the society that they live in. In my life, I deal with my social class, Gender, Race, Religion, and the time I was born. Because of who I am, I definitely have been a part of a different upbringing and lifestyle that many sociologist may find interesting.
