The purpose of this discussion is to delve into my closet and examine my wardrobe for habits of dress, country of origin, style and fashion and to describe a few items that classify as international culture. As I examine my wardrobe I notice more than half of my clothing is made in Pakistan or Indonesia. Most of my tops are flowing materials or very thick cottons. I like things that are comfortable and soft. My shoes are also made in the Philippines, I wear Nike Air athletic shoes at work and home. I also own about 500 pairs of socks! I love all types. Low rise, ankle, crew, knee high, compression, fuzzy and wool. I also have to have necklaces. I love my special ones that were given to me by my husband and my mom and dad. I chose to look up the background of both. Socks originated way back in caveman times. They would take pieces of animal skin, dry it out and tie it around their feet to protect them from the elements in the forest when hunting. Then socks became very popular for men first! A shock to me. They were used in the Elizabethan era to show who was upper class after the knitting loom was created. They were knee high and tied just below the knee. Then during the industrial revolution they were made out of wool which was cheaper and quicker. Finally in the 19th century they became made of cotton and were mass produced. Necklaces originated in the Paleolithic and Neolithic times and were made from shells, bones, teeth and claws found at sites of archaeological explorations. Since the beginning of time man has wanted to decorate themselves to show class and stature. I also found out that in the 13th century it was illegal for a commoner to wear a gold necklace. If found, the person would have a limb cut
