The Civil War was a historical moment for everyone in the United States. It redefined the history for which America could have been known as today. But the big question is, why did the Civil war even happen and what resulted after it was over? Well, to start, the War happened because the south wanted to preserve slavery while the North disagreed and wanted slavery to be abolished. Consequently, the war erupted for the sole purpose of fighting for (South) or against (North) slavery.Thus, the effects of the war resulted in a very commemorated event. Speeches were made that fuelled the nations’ sense of freedom and now, it is what defines this very nation. “I think that 'twixt the negroes of the South and the women at the North, all talking about rights, the white men will be in a fix pretty soon.” [Truth;Paragraph 1] In the statement stated, she expresses the thought that because everyone is asking for their rights from white men, the said white men would be having problems soon. It shows that even before the Civil War, countless of people asked for the rights that they were being held back on. “I have borne thirteen children, and seen most all sold off to slavery,” [Truth;Paragraph 2] In this statement, she expresses the problems she has encountered, the problem being her children being sold off to slavery, and yet nothing has been done. Thus, comes in the reason why the North wanted to get rid of slavery, they wanted it gone because it withheld peoples rights as a human and peoples rights to freedom.
